Calling International / Foreign Students

GHCA has hosted a number of foreign students over the years, including students from Germany, Brazil, Korea, and Japan. To make the process easier for prospective foreign students who are seeking enrollment, we have a new International Student Page that provides links to the forms you'll need, details of our programs and the area, and even a photo album that details the activities of previous foreign students who have attended GHCA. If you are an international student and you are interested in what GHCA has to offer, check out our new page just for you!

Benefit Supper/Dessert Auction

Chloe Marie Bates was diagnosed with Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis on May 11, 2010 at the age of 9 months old. Chloe's siblings are Academy students, so we are inviting everyone out to a benefit supper to help the Bates family with the challenging medical expenses that they are now facing, as well as offering emotional and spiritual support. The supper is being held Friday, August 13, and you can check Jan Neureuther's blog for all the details. Jan's email address is also on her blog, so feel free to contact her if you have any questions or would like to help in any way. Thank you!

Volunteer Work Day and other Opportunities

UPDATE - our Volunteer Work Day has passed, but we still have unfinished jobs that need to be done. Steve Bither is more than happy to work around your schedule, so if you can offer a couple hours of your time, please contact Steve at 538-6357 regarding how you can help. Also, we have various volunteer opportunities that are becoming available for specific programs like sports. We will keep Association members up-to-date regarding these opportunities via email. If you haven't been receiving email from us, please contact our office so we can put you on our list!

GHCA has a number of jobs that need to be completed prior to the opening of school, and your help is needed to get the work done! While you can come in at any time (once you set up that time with Steve Bither), we will be having had a special Academy Work Day on July 24th starting at 8:00 AM.

Steve leads our work days, and he happily points you in the direction of the jobs you feel that you're most suited for. We need to sheetrock around the new windows, paint, clean, fix holes, you name it! Please bring your pails, rags, paintbrushes, and other supplies that could help with these jobs.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Steve at 538-6357. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Thinking ahead to the 2010-2011 School Year

photo from class 2010 graduation Summer 2010 has been one of the hottest in recent years! We hope you've had some time to enjoy the weather and the break from your child's normal academic schedule. Things have slowed a bit at the Academy, but the adminstration has continued to work diligently preparing for the upcoming school year. Our 2010-2011 school calendar is now available, and if your child is ready for their supply list, that is available as well. The school office will reopen on August 23 at 8:00 AM, but in the meantime you may leave a message on the answering machine or email them at any time. To reach Kelly in the main office you can email office@ghca.com., and for the business office, please email Sally at accounting@ghca.com.

Presenting the class of 2010

If you have any pictures of the graduation that you'd like to share with us, you can either upload them yourself to our Facebook Page or email them to Mr. Surran at msurran@ghca.com. We already have a number of video clips, transcripts from the various speeches, and photos posted on our Facebook Page, so please check those out! Fred Sjoberg also created a two hour DVD of our 2010 Senior Graduation service, including interviews with each of the graduates! He's made the DVD available for $20 per copy. If you are interested or would like to know more, you can email Fred at fmsjoberg@msn.com or call him at 207-532-4057. We will upload selected clips from the DVD to our Facebook page as time allows.

To the class of 2010, we give you the Lord's blessing - "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace."

NORTHERN MAINE FAIR

The GHCA Food Booth will once again be on site at the 156th Northern Maine Fair from July 30th until August 7th. If you are interested in working a shift, please email Kelly at office@ghca.com. Learn more about our teachers

You can learn more about our teaching faculty by visiting the Teacher Feature section of our website. You'll learn all about our currently featured teacher as Mr. Zimmerman interviews him / her about various pastimes, interests, and other such things. The majority of our teachers now have a feature, accessible via the list of names on the menu bar on the Teacher Feature page.

GHCA Receives NEASC Accreditation!

We recently received the exciting news that accreditation has been granted to the Academy for a ten year term by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), making it only the second Christian school in the state to become accredited. NEASC is the nation's oldest accrediting association and is the organization that accredits public and private schools in the New England area.

To learn more about the process, the results, and the importances of accreditation, please read our Head of School's blog. We also encourage you to watch the 2 minute news story that aired on the WAGM evening news on Tuesday, March 2nd. The video is located on our fan page (click the link to view).

GHCA Receives State Approval

State approval makes more options available to the school such as our teachers being able to satisfy state certification requirements in-house instead of having to go outside our school. State approval means a school is meeting certain basic standards of curriculum, safety, etc., but it does not in any way affect our ability to maintain our Christian distinctives, including the teaching of Bible, for example.

Following on the heels of the recent accreditation of the Academy, this is yet another affirmation to our parents and community that GHCA is a school parents can have confidence in. While we know the school has not "arrived" in any sense, we will continue to have a relentless focus on improvement. We can be grateful for God's blessing on the hard work of so many staff and families over the years.

For everything there is a time

This is just a friendly reminder that we want to preserve the privacy and family time of all our staff and families by not "talking shop" with them when they're at church or at any events away from school. In other words, if you have a concern you'd like to discuss with any of us on the school staff, we would love to make an appointment and talk with you - just not at church or in the grocery store, etc. Please be mindful of this during the summer months as well.

NOTE - We have a list of our personnel who are responsible for the various aspects, programs, and policies at GHCA. This list is on our Contact Us page. Thank you for your understanding!
