About the "Teacher Feature"

The Teacher Feature is designed to acquaint you with "another side" of our Academy teachers in addition to their professional lives. Each month, an interview and a few photo clips of a teacher will appear in the Teacher Feature. We have great people serving here at the Academy, and we want you to get to know and appreciate them. - Mr. Zimmerman

Mr. and Mrs. Foster

What do you do for fun?

We love doing things outdoors like skiing in the winter and gardening in the summer. Riding the Harley on a warm summer night is hard to beat. We have an outdoor fire place we enjoy inviting others over to sit around, cook a hot dog and chat. It's fun to go to the coast and do a little camping. My wife relaxes with the piano while I strum my guitar.. We both enjoy reading.

What books or books have you recently read?

(Mrs. Foster) I am reading a novel, The Recital. (Mr. Foster) I am reading Ghost Soldier an account of a rescue during the Baton march.

How did you spend the summer?

We spent time with family and friends. For the past few summers we have really enjoyed Windjammer Days in Boothbay Harbor with our friends, Justin and Meredith Fowlie. We love watching the tall ships, the fireworks and the parade. This year everyone is to wear red to make the shape of a huge lobster as seen from the sky. We also rest as well as garden in the summer. I (Mrs. Foster) teach piano lessons; and I (Mr. Foster) do work around the house. I usually start getting my firewood from my father-in-law's majestic and tranquil wood lot. We also work on cleaning the house and lounging in our pool.

Of what church are you a member and in what ministries do you participate?

We are members of County Road Baptist Church where I (Mr. Foster) am “Minister of Light” operating the audiovisual department. I also fill in as worship leader and am currently teaching an adult Sunday school. I (Mrs. Foster) am the church pianist. I also help organize ladies' activities for the church. We both take part in the nursing home ministry and help with Wilderness Day Camp.

Do you have a life verse? Why have you adopted it?

(Mr. Foster) I don't have a life verse but I value Psalm 139 especially verse 17 which reminds me of how precious are the thoughts of God toward me. I can't imagine how many and how kind those thoughts are. (Mrs. Foster) I enjoy I John 4:4. All things are possible with the Holy Spirit in us.

What have you done recently to better yourself professionally?

(Mrs. Foster) I just went to an all day workshop in Portland on "Differential Learning", presented a summary of it to the Academy teachers and this fall, will present a more extensive workshop to them. I have also just received my ACSI teacher certification.

(Mr. Foster) I spent a day at Portland Christian school where I spent some time with the 4th grade teacher . I was encouraged and enabled to try to do some things to make learning more fun. I'd like to use my classroom to stimulate my students,. After all, we are in the fun part of schooling.

What makes you want to get up in the morning?

(Mrs. Foster) Some days are easier than others. I love my job and the students. When a student says, "Oh. I get it", it makes my day. (Mr. Foster) I enjoy the school family and being a part of it. When I'm in the "mode" of school, that's what I think about. We both enjoy being able to work side by side.

What do you like about GHCA?

It's our comfortable Alma Mater. We like the smallness and enjoy the autonomy.

If you could design your dream school, what would it look like?

GHCA is our dream school.:)
