ABOUT OUR BUILDING
Built in 1905, the Lambert building was originally the public high school for Houlton for many years. Later it became the middle school for our public school system until it was closed in favor of a newer building. GHCA bought this building from the town for a miraculous $1.00! Built representative of its time, the building displays marvelous handiwork, both cosmetically and structurally, that makes it a unique and "warm" building. Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers throughout the years, the building has been restored, including many modern implementations such as a sloped roof, dropped ceilings, carpeting, insulation, new lights & electrical wiring, computer networking, new windows, a new furnace, and much more. Proper measures have been taken to meet state fire and safety codes. Just recently we received a hot-top pavement for a remarkable price. Sporting both modern and early 19th century architecture, our building represents the best of both worlds.
