Dresscode (Boys & Girls)

Event Calendar Weekly Minder Teacher Blogs SURRAnet Search

The intent of the dress code is to allow for some variety while encouraging modesty, neatness, and appropriateness of dress. The dress code is not intended to measure spirituality nor to promote legalism, but rather to serve as a tool in nurturing the academic and moral character development of the students as they participate in the business of education during the school year.

Pants:

  • Chinos, Twill pants, corduroy pants or slacks, both pleated and not pleated are acceptable.
  • Denim material pants with colors that are not faded are acceptable.
  • Capri style pants are acceptable for girls during warmer weather days; "dressy" cargos are acceptable for boys.
  • All pants must be neat, sharp looking and properly fitted, i.e., not overly tight and not "saggy, baggy or draggy".
  • Belts are to be worn by boys with pants that have belt loops.
  • No blue dungaree material, stretch, camouflage or carpenter style pants are permitted.

Skirts/Dresses (girls only):

  • Skirts, jumpers and dresses must be neat and modest (not overly tight or form fitting).
  • Skirt length must be no more than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling.
  • Denim skirts and jumpers are permitted provided they are not faded or washed-out looking.

Shirts/Blouses:

(any color solids or stripes)
  • Boys: collared shirts, Oxford shirts, and Polo shirts with 2 or 3 button closure - long or short sleeve.

  • Shirts and blouses with slogans, or pictures are not permitted.
  • Shirts worn by boys must remain tucked in throughout the school day.

Turtlenecks and Sweaters:

  • Boys: V-neck, round neck cardigan and pullover sweaters and vests may be worn over an acceptable collared shirt.
  • Girls: V-neck, round neck cardigan and pullover sweaters and vests may be worn over a T-shirt or blouse turtleneck shirts for boys and girls may be worn without a sweater or vest over top.
  • Light fleece vests with buttons or zippers are permitted.
  • Coats, jackets, sweatshirts and hats may not be worn during the school day.

Footwear:

  • Clean dress shoes, casual shoes, or athletic shoes are allowed.
  • No slip-on shoes, sandals or open-toed and heeled shoes are to be worn for safety reasons.

Hair:

natural color and a neat and trim appearance with no outlandish extremes for styles and cuts.

Jewelry and Make-Up:

  • Modesty and tastefulness for girls' make-up and jewelry should guide individual families in this area.
  • Boys are not permitted to wear earrings, or other body piercings or large-size or thick neck chains or chokers.
  • Body piercing rings for females are to be limited to the ears.
  • Visible tattoos are not permitted.

Chapel Days (Tuesdays):

  • Boys are to wear regular dress shirts and ties (until lunchtime).
  • Girls are to wear dresses or a blouse and skirt combination (no pants).

PE Uniforms:

Athletic shoes, solid blue or black windpants, or sweatpants with a plain gray T-shirt (brand logos are acceptable).

Jean Days:

Neat, proper fitting and not faded jeans may be worn with regular dress code shirts for boys and girls.

Field Trips:

Students should plan to dress in standard school dress code for all field trips unless specified otherwise by the school administration and the sponsoring teacher.

Student Game Attire:

It is the responsibility of the coach to see that the dress of his/her athletes meets set standards.

Student Spectator Dress:

Students may wear casual shirts, slacks or jeans to games; however, for consistency of testimony, it is important that each student looks neat and modest and wears clothing that portrays a biblical morality and inner character.

FINAL DETERMINATION OF WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ADMINISTRATION.
