General Curriculum
HomeworkHomework is assigned to reinforce concepts or to enrich the academic program. It is intended that homework be an appropriate complement to the respective grade level; appropriate in both time requirement and level of difficulty/challenge. Grades 1-3 will spend between 0 and 30 minutes average on homework, while grades 4-6 will spend an average of 0 to 60 minutes doing homework. These timeframes are based on the assumption that the student uses their in-school study time efficiently. Homework RequestsThere may be times when a child cannot be in school or is unable to complete the homework assignment due to appropriate extenuating circumstances and parents wish to request additional time. Parents are to put their request to the teacher in writing, stating brief reason and the specific request. Honor RollAfter each grading period, an honor roll will be published in the school newsletter. The Highest Honor Roll has no grade lower than an A- in academic subjects. The High Honor Roll has no grade lower than a B- in academic subjects. The Honor Roll has all A's and/or B's and just one C in academic subjects. Report CardsReport cards are issued each quarter in grades 1-6. Report cards must be signed by a parent and returned the following school day. Conferences may be scheduled at the initiative of parents or teachers. Failures or unsatisfactory achievement may result in the loss of extra-curricular activity privileges. Parents can view their child's grades at any time by using the SURRAnet portal on the school's website. Assignment NotebooksFor grade 1 folders only will be used to transport papers and notes to home. For grades 2 through 6 an assignment notebook will be used. Teachers and parents are to check daily for assignments, notes, papers, etc. Bible VersionOnly one version, the King James Version will be used so that confusion will not be introduced in the elementary classrooms because of classroom Bible reading, memorization and oral recitation.
