GHCA exists to educate the mind for knowledge and to enlighten the spirit for wisdom in order to empower the next generation of godly leaders who will impact the world for Jesus Christ.
Mark your Calendar for Saturday, February 11 and plan to come and support GHCA as we host a public supper at the Littleton Ag Museum! Menu will be spaghetti, salad, rolls, dessert and a beverage, all for a donation to the Academy! Supper will begin at 4:30 and the dessert auction will follow! Come prepared to bid on a great selection of valentine goodies!
Ashley Grenier, Sara Hemingway, and Allison Little have accepted our invitation to join the GHCA chapter of the National Honor Society and will be inducted on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 8:15 a.m. at Military Street Baptist Church.National Honor Society is more than just academic recognition. Students are selected based upon outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Congratulations, girls!
Congratulations to 7th grader Jennah Carver who, by correctly spelling antelope, became GHCA's spelling bee champion for 2012. Kudos's also to Bridgett Hill who, as a 6th grade student, coolly spelled her way to the first runner up position . Both girls demonstrated great poise under pressure during the entire contest.
Jennah and Bridgett will make the trek, with their families and friends, to the University of Maine at Fort Kent on February 10, to compete in the Aroostook County spelling bee scheduled to start at 6:00 PM. The county bee is hosted this year by Fort Kent Elementary/Valley Rivers Middle School in cooperation with UMFK.
The Academy family is proud of Jennah and Bridgett and pray God's grace and power on them as they face off with the best spellers of the County at Fox Auditorium on the UMFK campus.
You can learn more about our teaching faculty by visiting the Teacher Feature section of our website. You'll learn all about our currently featured teacher as Mr. Zimmerman interviews him / her about various pastimes, interests, and other such things. The majority of our teachers now have a feature, accessible via the list of names on the menu bar on the Teacher Feature page.
You can also learn more about our teachers via their blogs. BLOG is short for "web log", and it's a very common way in the 21st Century for individuals to communicate their thoughts, plans, and in our case, what's happening in the classroom. Blogs are used by our teachers to keep parents in the loop. Please check our blog pages on a weekly basis to see what's new in your child's school life! If you have time, give your teacher some feedback on what he / she is sharing. Enjoy!
There is all sorts of exciting things happening these days at or related to GHCA, so much that we can't possibly put it all here on the homepage! Please check our Calendar Page and our Facebook Events Page to see what exciting events are planned for the coming weeks. If you have a GHCA-related event you'd like on the calendar, please contact the office.
GHCA has hosted a number of foreign students over the years, including students from Germany, Brazil, Korea, and Japan. To make the process easier for prospective foreign students who are seeking enrollment, we have a new International Student Page that provides links to the forms you'll need, details of our programs and the area, and even a photo album that details the activities of previous foreign students who have attended GHCA. If you are an international student and you are interested in what GHCA has to offer, check out our new page just for you!
Last year we received the exciting news that accreditation has been granted to the Academy for a ten year term by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), making it only the second Christian school in the state to become accredited. NEASC is the nation's oldest accrediting association and is the organization that accredits public and private schools in the New England area. We later received our ACSI accreditation, making us dual-accredited!
To learn more about the process, the results, and the importances of accreditation, please read our Head of School's blog. We also encourage you to watch the 2 minute news story that aired on the WAGM evening news on Tuesday, March 2nd. The video is located on our fan page (click the link to view).
State approval makes more options available to the school such as our teachers being able to satisfy state certification requirements in-house instead of having to go outside our school. State approval means a school is meeting certain basic standards of curriculum, safety, etc., but it does not in any way affect our ability to maintain our Christian distinctives, including the teaching of Bible, for example.
Following on the heels of the recent accreditation of the Academy, this is yet another affirmation to our parents and community that GHCA is a school parents can have confidence in. While we know the school has not "arrived" in any sense, we will continue to have a relentless focus on improvement. We can be grateful for God's blessing on the hard work of so many staff and families over the years.
