Welcome Back! (09/02/2010)

Welcome back to all returning students! To those who are new to GHCA this year, we welcome you. I am looking forward to having a great year with all of you. I hope you can come to the open house today. I will be in the 7th grade classroom to see and talk with any of you who drop in.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and Lord willing, I'll see you all next Tuesday for the start of another school year!

Have a Great Summer! (06/05/2010)

Well done students! You made it through the school year!
The 7th graders had a beautiful sunny afternoon for their class picnic which was enjoyed by all.
Have a great summer break and Lord willing, I'll see you again in the fall! 8th graders be sure and stop in to say hello!

Summer is Almost Here! (05/24/2010)

This is our last full week of school before the summer break! Friday will be the day for both grammar and vocabulary finals. We are spending this week reviewing in both. However, I strongly encourage each of you to study on your own. Spend some time each day or evening studying. In grammar, go over the areas that you know are weak spots for you. In vocabulary, you will have a study sheet by the end of Monday so that you know which words will be covered on the exam.

As voted by the class, we will again this year, be having the 7th grade class picnic at my home in Canada. I will need at least 2 parents to help with transportation both over and back. Please let me know soon, if you are able to help. By the end of this week, everyone will know what they need to bring for the picnic. We will be leaving right after the reward ceremony Friday, June 4th. The students will first have a chance to change out of their chapel dress clothes into something more casual and comfortable. Be see to bring bathing suits and towels. Each student will need his/her birth certificate or a passport. The same will be true for any parent who will be coming. All parents are welcome. Please let your child know if you will be coming so that we know for the head count. We will be back to school by 2:30PM (EST). If you do not come on the picnic, you can pick your student up at that time.

Students, keep focused and work hard these last few days so that your year end finish is strong. You've had a good year. Now finish it well!

Be Prepared! (05/03/2010)

Tomorrow, Tuesday May 4th, is the start of our annual standard achievement testing. Be sure and get a good night's rest each night before the testing and eat a good breakfast in the morning. Research has proven that both plenty of rest and a good breakfast help a student do better in school. Bring a snack and a book to read. Testing will be most of Tuesday, Wednesday and part of Thursday. We will still have chapel on Tuesday so come dressed appropriately.

Both 7th and 8th graders will have their vocabulary tests over Unit 13, this coming Friday. The bonus word for this test for both grades will be "scull". At the top of your test, spell the word correctly and write the correct definition for 2 bonus points. Don't miss out!

I will be gone from May 12-May 17th. Mrs. Bowers will be your substitute. I will be back, Lord willing, on Tuesday, May 18th. I'm sure she will do an excellent job and I'm sure you will give her a great time!

Unfortunately, there are some colds going around and we are in need of some more tissues. If some of you could bring in a box, it would be greatly appreciated. We are also needing more dry erase markers. I would really appreciate some of you bring in a few more markers. Thank you to those who faithfully keep supplying the things we need. If some of the rest of you could bring some, it would help spread the load. Thank you very much.

Classroom Needs! (04/16/2010)

Once we return from vacation, we will be in need again of both dry erase markers and tissues. If you can send any of these items in with your students, it will be much appreciated.
Thank you all once again.

Spring Break!! (04/15/2010)

Spring break is just around the corner! One more day of classes! I know several of you are planning on traveling, as am I. I will be praying for safe travel for all of you. Have a wonderful break! Hopefully, the weather will be warm and nice! Even is it isn't, have a great time. I will see you, Lord willing, again on April 26th, when we will dig in for a strong finish to this school year.

This week's bonus word for both 7th and 8th grade classes for vocabulary is "abhorrence". Spell it correctly and write the correct definition on your test for 2 bonus points. Take advantage of these "free" points.

Easter - The Resurrection of Our Lord! (03/29/2010)

What a wonderful time of year! A time to remember not only that Jesus Christ died to cleanse us from sin but also that He rose again on the third day so that we can live with Him forever and ever! What glorious news! I wish you all a joyous Easter weekend!

The bonus word for this week's vocabulary test is "pandemonium" for both grades. Spell the work correctly at the top of your test and write the correct definition for 2 bonus points. Don't miss out!

I am still looking for someone who is able to fix the door on a cupboard in the 7th grade classroom. At this point, the door is only attached by 1 hinge and I am afraid of it breaking off altogether. The other 2 hinges have actually come disconnected so look like they are easily reconnected. I have done it myself once but they just popped out again after 1 day. If there is anyone willing to come in and see if you can fix it for me, I would be most appreciative.

Reminder: We are always in need of dry erase markers. We will soon need tissues as well.

Thank you all for everything!

Spirit Week - Success!! (03/16/2010)

Spirit Week was a great success! 7th graders, I commend all you who participated! Your choice of costumes for your theme was terrific! Those who did not participate, be prepared to help your class team out next year! Have a great day at Mars Hill tomorrow and I will see you, Lord willing, Monday the 22nd! Then with only a few short weeks until spring break, we will need to "dig in" and get a lot accomplished.

7th and 8th graders, your vocabulary test over unit 10 will be Tuesday the 23rd of March. The bonus word for both classes this test will be "puffery". For those who spell the work correctly at the top of your test along with the definition will receive 2 bonus points!

All math redos are due Monday morning, March 22nd!

Spirit Week is Coming Soon! (03/04/2010)

Next Friday, March 12th, kicks off Spirit Week. March 12th will be School Pride Day. You may wear school colors and clothes. Check Mr. Angotti's blog for more details on Spirit Week.

Tomorrow, Friday March 5th, both 7th and 8th graders will have their Unit 1-9 Cumulative Vocabulary Test. We reviewed today and most of you did well. However, take the extra time tonight to study the words with which you had difficulty. The bonus word for the 7th grader's this week is"dexterous" and the 8th graders word is "spasmodic". At the top of your test write the word, spelled correctly, and its definition to earn 2 bonus points,

Several of you owe math work and redo's. Remember, these are all due by Monday, March 8th at the latest. Be sure and turn yours in on time.

Do well on tomorrow's test and then have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome Back! (02/24/2010)

Welcome back to another stint of school! I hope you all had as wonderful a vacation as I did. I wasn't able to attend the tournament game in Bangor but I listened to it on my laptop computer which I had with me. WHOU had the broadcast streaming live. So I was able to hear the whole game and feel a bit like I was there.

The next weeks are going to go by fast so we need to make sure we cover the ground necessary. Some of you have gotten right back into school and are being diligent. There are others that have not quite gotten out of vacation mode. Remember, homework is not an option. It is part of your school work. If I assign it, it needs to be done. Make sure you get a good night's rest in order to be alert and able to pay attention during class.

Both 7th and 8th graders have a vocabulary test on unit 9 this Friday (Feb 26th). The bonus word for the 7th graders is "skittish", and the bonus word for the 8th graders is "tenacious". Write the word, spelled properly, at the top of your test, along with it's definition for a bonus of 2 points. These are 2 easy extra points so take advantage of this opportunity. Your cumulative test covering units 1-9 will be the following Friday (Mar 5th). Be prepared!

The 7th graders have a math test on Chapter 10 next Tuesday (Mar 2nd) while the 8th graders have a pre-algebra test on Chapter 11 next Friday (Mar 5th). Anyone needing extra help be sure to see me in plenty of time.
