The school year is finished. I hope you enjoy your time off, but I also hope you take the time this summer to remember or perhaps truly realize for the first time that you are "fearfully and wonderfully made" by the God of the universe. Purpose in your heart to become all that God the Father has designed you to be in Jesus Christ His son, by the power of His Holy Spirit.
My seniors have successfully completed their final exam in Calculus this past Monday.
Finals for the rest of the classes will be next week.
Wednesday - Algebra 2
Thursday - Algebra 1 and Apologetics
Friday - Geometry
Thank you all for providing me with the much needed dry-erase markers. I have enough to get me through the rest of the year. The students and I both appreciate being able to use the white boards in class. Instruction time has been reduced, material coverage has increased, and grades are rising.
As we head toward the end of the school year I thought it interesting to note that both my freshman class and my sophomore class are slightly ahead of where I though they would be by this time of year.
Currently the freshman Algebra 1 class is moving very rapidly through polynomial operations in preparation for learning how to factor them. We appear to be on schedule to complete one full chapter more than I had anticipated!
The sophomore Geometry class is nearly a full chapter ahead as well!
The students are working very hard and the use of white boards has proved very beneficial to the speed of comprehension of the students.
Thank you to Mrs. Emery for providing my class room with a package of new dry erase markers. I am most appreciative and so are the students.
I still have to borrow markers from time to time in order to effectively use the boards, so if anyone else is able to help us out we would be most grateful to you as well. Currently I have to borrow anywhere from 3 to 6 depending on the class.
Thank you in advance.
I have recently introduced the use of white boards in my algebra classes. It greatly increases my ability to see what the students are doing and I can give them more rapid and direct feedback. The students enjoy it too, and their participation levels and work accuracy have improved noticeably. I do have a need, however. I have had to borrow dry erase markers, when available, from other teachers. It would be very nice to have about a dozen that I could keep in the room. If anyone is willing and able to meet this need I (and the students) would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you very much!
It is truly a blessing to have good Christian friends. Tomi and I were recently blessed abundantly with the gift of a van by two such friends and we would like to offer a humble and sincere "thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!" You can't imagine how much your friendship means to us.
Have a wonderful winter break and good luck to the boys varsity basketball team!
The Juniors have been assigned the task of researching and writing about a recent claim of a miracle.
The assignment should be fun, entertaining, and informative.
They need to be prepared to present their findings before the class beginning on Monday February 8th.
The assignment guidelines are as follows:
Find (on the internet, in the newspaper, etc.) a recent supposedly miraculous claim that you find interesting.
1.Then write a brief but comprehensive explanation of what supposed to have occurred.
Make sure to include dates, places and any names that are significant.
2.Discuss the evidence for and against it being a legitimate miracle.
3.Based on what you discovered, tell whether you believe it is:
1.A miracle from God,
2.A work of Satan,
3.A natural occurrence, or
4.Simply a hoax.
4.State your reasons for your belief.
5.As extra credit, if you deem it a miracle of God or a work of Satan, explain what you think the purpose of the miracle was.
Next week I will be testing in two subjects. On Monday the Algebra 1 students will take their chapter 5 exam, and on Friday the Geometry students will take their chapter 5 exam. The calculus students will continue their work on the applications of derivatives and in Apologetics we will begin our reading and discussing of chapter 7.
I am very pleased with the progress and pace that is being maintained by the Algebra 1 and Geometry students. We are slightly ahead of where I thought we would be at this time. I do have some students who have some missing assignments in both of these classes, however. If you are one of them please take care to complete and submit your missing assignments quickly.
I am also happy to report that I am seeing a marked improvement in the performance of the Algebra 2 students. Effort, attitude and grades are on the rise. Keep up the good work.
In Apologetics we are studying and discussing whether evolution's idea that one species can transition into a new species is scientifically sustainable. It is incredible how much scientific data Darwinist's will ignore in order to claim there is no creator God.
Continue to pray for GHCA, its staff, and its students. May lives be transformed and God be glorified!
